Research as Rehearsal
This website aims to further bridge the divide between theory and practice. Every year the Peabody Conservatory puts on several operas. Students in the class, “Opera: Research as Rehearsal,” contribute to this site new projects based on one or two of those operas. They act as if they are dramaturges. Guided by the premise that thoughtful research makes for a thoughtful performance, they learn about an opera’s historical context, source materials, and related artworks so that they can make informed suggestions for how to act, sing, light, stage, design, and costume, that opera.
